Jose Andres the owner of a number of top restaurants across America, like Cafe Atlantico, Zaytina, Oyamel, Jaleo, the Bazaar, China Poblano,and the most unique one, Minibar, won the Outstanding Chef award in James Beard Foundation’s annual award ceremony, after defeating some of the most tough competitors: Paul Kahan of Blackbird in Chicago, Charles Phan of The Slanted Door, in San Francisco, Suzanne Goin of Lucques in Los Angeles, and Gary Danko of Restaurant Gary Danko also in San Francisco.

Andres moved to the States, 21 years ago, after having worked with Ferran Adria, the famous Spanish chef. He had grown up outside Barcelona.

Andres has recently become famous for his views and pro-active approach for social issues like child obesity, hunger and agro buisness and food marketing. Andres remarked that food is the most powerful thing we have got in our hands and if rightly used can eliminate hunger forever.
