The NASCAR driver of the popular Sprint Cup Series, David Reutimann, spends more than 30 weeks on the road chasing the Sprint Cup with his team, Michael Waltrip Racing. The team is sponsored by the Best West International and gets the rare opportunity of sleeping in hotels for more than six months a year. It is therefore quite clear that David and his team knows quite a lot about road trips. So here is a list of tips from the popular driver David, on the do’s and dont’s of road trips. You might consider them when you go out this year for either your annual family vacation or a business trip.

Before you start your journey:

(1) If you have 2 cars, then go for the one which consumes less fuel. If you have just an old SUV then you can rent out a small car that has better mileage.

(2) Take less luggage – a study by the www.fueleconomy.gov, shows that an extra baggage of 100 pounds in the trunk reduces the fuel economy of a typical car by about 1 to 2 per cent, while a load roof rack makes your car 5 percent less fuel efficient.

(3) Check out your tires – keep them inflated will make your car safer and it will also reduce the wear and tear of the car, giving you a better mileage of about 3 percent.

When you are on road:

(1) Drive slow – for every 5 mph you drive over 60 mph would be paying additional 24 cents per gallon of gas. Rapid acceleration and braking may reduce your mileage by about 33 percent.

(2) Use your smartphone to download useful travel apps which can provide you with gas prices, road directions and many more.

This summer, if you want a little adventure, then Europe would be a better option than the Middle East.

Yes, the Western Europe, which has been quite predictable at all times, is now in the middle of a serious political and economical crisis, never before seen in these parts. The Western Europe has been the dream destination for many American tourists throughout these years. As word spreads on about road blockages, lockouts, strikes and ever fluctuating currency rates, these Americans are wondering whether it’s safe anymore.

Bruce Mclndoe, the president of the iJET Intelligent Risk Systems, a security consultation company said that the situation has never been like this. He said that the issue of a more stable financial system and a stronger and better goverment would create a more tense situation throughout Europe in the next few weeks. Infact, since last week the scene of action has been Greece, with frequent & violent clashes between the protesters and the police.

Most of the American tourists are worried about two main issues, i.e, money & safety. (2 things to worry about. Isn’t it?)

While the value of Euro has fallen below Dollar making travel (for U.S tourists) really cheaper, experts predict that as soon as the situation stabilizes, the value of Euro may rise over Dollar making it all the more expensive, which could be a serious trouble.

The various security agencies have warned visitors to avoid some West European countries like Spain, Greece, Ireland and Portugal this summer as economic weakness and high unemployment would make these countries potential hotspots this summer.

Washington – The United States Travel Association has taken a decision to change the existing visa schemes of the nation so as to attract more tourists, particularly from developing economies like India, Brazil and China. A report by the organization showed that the “antiquated” visa schemes of the States quite often drives away tourists to other countries.

The figures released by USTA has showed that although tourism is the biggest industry export sector in the United States, the country has failed to keep up with other parts of the world, like Western Europe, as a major tourist destination in the last decade. In the last decade, i.e., from 2000 to 2010, developing nations like India, Brazil or China, global long-haul travel has grown by 140 percent and is estimated to double by the next decade. But the USA said that only a small part of that tourism and the revenue of billions of dollars that was created, went to them.

According to the research conducted by the United States Travel Association (USTA), if the existing system is upgraded then it could help create 1.3 million new employments across the country and earn more than $859 billion for the country’s economy.

The plan by the USTA focuses on increasing staffing, reducing waiting times for visa interviews and expanding the Visa Waiver Programme.

“The United States imposes unnecessary barriers on international visitors, and that inhibits our economic growth.

If you wanna cancel your trip abroad just because the United States has issued a worldwide travel alert in the wake of the death of the 9\11 mastermind Osama bin Laden, you can do so, but dont hope that your money would be returned by your travel insurance. No, not unless you have a very special policy.

This is because almost all the travel or insurance packages are designed to cover only events and not states of mind, says insurers. So if your luck is bad enough to make you visit a city, on an insured trip, where some crazy terrorist has planned to attack when you are there, you could just cancel or stop your journey and get your money back. But in case there is no attack and you are frightened of going there, then most of the polices wont help you.

But here’s an exception: there’s one policy with a cancel-for-any-reason rider, which is in fact what it sounds. This term of the policy allows a person to cancel his or her trip for any reason, absolutely any reason. But there are a few terms. Firstly, to collect the rider you need to cancel minimum two days ahead of the planned departure and you will get back at the most 70% to 80% of your costs, says Peter Evans, executive chairman of an on-line insurance agency, InsureMyTrip.com. But you have to pay at least 50 percent more on a bundled trip policy which covers for your sicknesses, natural disasters, terrorism or other specified events, along with a premium that might be as high as 4 to 7 percent on your travel costs.

Top Ten Things To Do in Venice - Things to See and Visit in Venice, Italy, Popular Tourist Attractions in Venice Europe

Venice, also called as “City of Bridges”, is the capital of Veneto region. Located in the north-east part of Italy, the city is stretched along the mouths of the Po and the Piave rivers.

Venice is even known as magnetic point for lovers, sweethearts, poets and artists. Venice is a city of magic, which stretches across small islands. It is also referred to as city of ‘gondole’, which means transportation is used to cross the numerous canals passing through the city.

The transportation in Venice is represented by boats. In the 19th Century, the causeway built and allowed trains to reach the city of Venice from the Mainland.

In Venice one can find another type of boats, “Vaporetti”, which is also called waterbuses or taxis that represents a symbol of Venice.

St. Mark’s Basilica

It is a big onion domes and multicolored marble pillars with beautiful outside, and interior is covered with mosaics floor to ceiling. There is no fee to visit the main part of the besilica, and even booking an entry time online is free. There are three museums within the besilica, which you will have to pay an entry fee to see. The present besilica has a very ornate faced with the golden winged lion which represents St. Mark, the symbol of Venice.

St. Mark’S Square

In Venice, St., Mark’s Square is the main square, and it has long been a central meeting place for Venetians. Now, St. Mark’s Square is a great place for tourists. It has a dominating clock tower, the Basilica, political and religious buildings, restaurants, bars, and shops, and is known as one of the most beautiful squares in the world. On the Square, from the 1700s, Café Florian, is a popular place, as is Café Quadri. Usually it seems tough to see the fine features and architecture of the place as millions of pigeons are there, unless visiting at off-peak times. The best times are early morning and late evening to catch St. Mark’s Square at her most vulnerable.

Doge’s Palace

A series of 120 Doges ruled on Venice, and their incredible 3-storied palace dates back to before Renaissance times. The Doge’s Palace is the second most important “attraction” in Venice after the basilica. It is located on St. Mark’s Square and with the facade features beautiful arches, pink and white marble. The inside of the palace contains priceless artwork by Tintoretto, Titian, Bellini, Veronese and more, that looks amazing. The Great Council Hall displays, Tintoretto’s “Paradise”, the largest oil painting in the world, and the Golden Staircase is just amazing. The Doge’s Palace is one of the most opulent residences ever.

Murano Island

Murano is located north of venice and it is famous for its beautiful, hand-blown glass. There are many glass museum and glass making shops. You can go into factories to see how to make glass blowers and shape the lovely pieces. A long time ago, the glass blowers were moved to Murano to lesson the chance of fires in Venice. The glass factories send free boats over to St. Mark’s Square to lure over customers; take the free boat over and the vaporetto back.

Burano Island

After your visit to Murano, you can take a vaporetto further into the lagoon for a trip of Burano Island. Burano is usually less crowded than Murano and It is almost cartoon like brightly colored buildings. It makes the perfect backdrop for a stroll. The Colors are so brilliant and cheerful that you to walk around Burano for even half an hour and not have a smile on your face is next to impossible.

Torcello Island

You can get back on the boat and take the trip of favorite place of the lagoon’s island- Torcello. It is a short trip from Burano, but if you go straight to Torcell from Venice, it can take up to an hour. If you are interested for more nature and less for structure, it is an ideal spot. Most of Torcello is a nature reserve. You can enjoy the tranquil view. There are only 20 people who still live on the island, and there is only one hotel, although there are a few places to eat. The main “sight” on the island is a 7th century church and with more exceptional mosaics.

LIDO Island

Lido Island is located between Venice and the Sea. Lido has a beach with little cabanas. There are public and private beaches, and that private beaches are connected to hotels. Lido has shopping, restaurants and hotels, and unlike in Venice, cars can be driven there. If you are in Venice and feel like getting a little sun, take a vaporetto over to the Lido.

Bridges

In Venice, There are two most famous bridges Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs. The Rialto, was the first bridge to span the Grand Canal, from the 1500s, and it has shops lining both sides. It is best viewed from the side, and thus from the water, to get a good photograph of the bridge. The Bridge of Sighs was the last bridge on which prisoners walked over before being thrown into the dungeon, so the sighs came from realizing that the view through the bridge’s cutwork was their last view of Venice. There is also Accademia Bridge, built in the 1800s, and also crosses the Grand Canal. There are smaller bridges all over Venice that cross the canals.

Acqua Alta

In Venice, high tide is known as Acqua Alta, and if you are unprepared for it, your feet and pants can get wet. The local Venetians know when it is coming so as to get prepared by carrying around their rubber boots. Sometimes the water is very high and floods most of the city and other times only the lowest areas are flooded. It can be a problem for the boats trying to get under the bridges also. The Venetians work hard to solve the flooding problem, and it’s interesting to see it up close.

Carnevale

In Venice, the grand Carnevale is held each year before Lent for 12 days, and people from all over come to celebrate. You can see extremely elaborate costumes at Carnevale, and the festival dates back to 1162. It used to begin the day after Christmas. You can find funny, scary and emotional masks in windows around the city any time in year. There are so many shops selling the elaborate masks used by participants of Carnevale. Many tourists would not consider leaving Venice without a Carnevale mask as a souvenir.

Top 10 Things To Do in New York - Things to Do in USA, popular tourist attractions and places in New York, USA

New York is a most popular city of United States. New York walking is exciting for any age of people, but for the teen old people it is one of the world’s great cities. Below are few things which you must never forget to do in New York:

Big Apple Greeters
New Yorkers volunteer to show tourists around their favorite town. You can make a first trip for this in New York. “Greets” vary with each visitor. When visitors sign up, they are asked about their interests. Each Greet teaches us to use the New York Subway System. You will find a volunteer if you are interested to walk on the Coney Island, the SoHo, Art Museums, Harlem history etc.

The Empire State Building
The Empire State of Building is one of the most popular landmarks in New York City. You can check out the view of New York City from a top of Empire State Building. You can buy a ticket online for Empire State Building to avoid a long line-ups and to save your time.

Don’t miss to observe the 102nd floor. For a long time, you could go for 86th floor observatory, but now, you can go to visit up to 102nd floor observatory. You will be able to see all New York City, Central Park and Bridges, because the area is covered with glass, you will get better pictures from here. You can not buy ticket of 102nd floor observatory online, but you can buy it at kiosk on the 86th floor.

Lower Eastside Tenement Museum
You can learn some history of New York, such as who crossed the oceans, who toiled in sweatshop and many more. Take the subway of Lower East Side and walk over to Orchard Street. 20 different nations were crowded into this street, for almost 200 years.

In one hour guided tours here you will come to know about the actual apartments where the people lived a hundred years ago. Also see the “sweatshop” where a family raised kids and spend their life in the garment industry.

“Visit the Confino Family Apartment” tour features a costumed guide playing the role of Victoria Confino; she welcomes you as you are a newly-arrived immigrant.

Grand Central Station
Grand Central Terminal, referred as Grand Central Station, is a beautiful Beaux-arts building of midtown Manhattan. It was opened in 1913, underwent a massive restoration to restore it to its former glory. Now it is a transportation hub and also a destination for visitors of New York.

Harbour Tour
It offers several choices for harbor tours. Circle line operates “The Beast” speed boat , a high speed short ride, but there is no guide commentary about the history of harbor or the statue of liberty. The Shark, a thrill speedboat, another choice of fun, leaves from south street seaport.

If you can’t do a harbor tour, another easy way is to cruise past the statue of liberty. It runs frequently and it is free.

American Museum Of Natural History
This museum is situated on the upper east side of Central Park. This is a venerable institution, and has unparalleled collections. Its some highlights are special exhibits, the Hayden Planetarium in the Rose Center for Earth and Space; and dinosaurs.

New York – Central Park
You can see the parts of Central Park in movies. Central Park is spread out in 893 acres. A memorial of John Lennon “Strawberry Fields” is at 72nd St. It is near the Dakota apartments, where John Lennon lived with Yoko Ono before he was shot.

Conservancy of Central Park is restoring the six-acre East Meadow and surrounding landscape also. In snow days, the Conservancy has cleared a combined 32 inches of snow of pedestrian paths from Central Park’s 58 miles.

New York – Chinatown
